André Ferreira

André Ferreira, originally from Leiria, Portugal, began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. He pursued his musical education under the guidance of renowned guitarists such as Margarita Escarpa at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, Tilman Hoppstock at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt, Paolo Pegoraro at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, and Ricardo Gallén at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Weimar.

With a deep interest in early music and inspired by various plucked instruments and playing techniques, he began playing the lute. This led him to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with David Bergmüller. André currently performs regularly with several renowned ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Wien and the Bach Consort Wien. This has given him the opportunity to perform at prestigious venues and festivals including the Wiener Musikverein, Theater an der Wien, Kammeroper Wien, Brucknerhaus Linz, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Kölner Philharmonie, and the Bach Festival in Lausanne.

He has shared the stage with prominent musicians such as Stefan Gottfried, Rubén Dubrovsky, Vivica Genaux, Veronica Cangemi, Anna Prohaska, Michael Schade, Florian Boesch, Sophie Rennert, Mónica Pustilnik, Christoph Hammer, and David Bergmüller. Since 2023, André has been teaching guitar and lute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
