Adriano del Sal
On this Saturday we will have a pleasure to listen to masterclasses and a concert by an acclaimed guitarist Adriano del Sal.
Adriano Del Sal is one of the most important young artists of recent years. His extraordinary musical talent and deep artistic sensibility, as well as his complete technical mastery of the instrument, make his performances unforgettable … a true virtuoso on his instrument.
Born in 1977, he began his guitar studies with Stefano Viola at the ‘J. Tomadini Conservatory’ in Udine, where he graduated in 1999 with Guido Fichtner. At the same time, he attended courses at the ‘F. Tarrega Academy’ in Pordenone, where he continued his musical training with Stefano Viola and Paolo Pegoraro.
He attended many masterclasses with important concert guitarists such as David Russel, Manuel Barrueco, Stefano Grondona, Alberto Ponce, Angelo Gilardino and Carlo Marchione. He has won first prize 12 times at international competitions. After winning the international competition ‘Julian Arcas’ in Almeria (Spain), his first solo CD was recorded for ‘Radio Nacional de Espana’. In 2003, he received the ‘La chitarra d’oro’ award in Alessandria (Italy) as the best young international concert artist of the year.
In 2004, he won first prize at the prestigious international competition ‘Città di Alessandria’. He is also the winner of the historic ‘Certamen F. Tarrega’ competition in Benicassim (Spain) in 2009.
Adriano Del Sal has performed at most of the important international festivals in Italy, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine and Slovenia. In 2001, he was described by David Russel as one of the best concert guitarists of our time. He currently teaches at the ‘Sor Guitar Academy’ in Milan, and since autumn 2015 he has held a professorship at the Music UNI in Vienna.
Francesca Agostinis
Francesca Agostinis (01/08/1996) began playing the guitar at the age of eleven with Angela Tagliariol at the ‘Giuseppe Lozer’ secondary music school in Pordenone. She then continued her studies with the same teacher at the ‘Segovia Academy’, where she also took part in advanced training courses with Prof. Paolo Pegoraro (KUG) and Prof. Adriano Del Sal (MDW) from 2011 to 2014.
From 2015 to 2020, she completed a bachelor’s degree in ‘Concert Guitar’ (specialising in contemporary music) and a bachelor’s degree in ‘Instrumental (Vocal) Pedagogy (IGP)’ with Paolo Pegoraro at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG).
In January 2024, she completed her Master’s degree in Instrumental (Vocal) Pedagogy (IGP) with distinction. This master’s programme at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) under Prof. Adriano Del Sal focused on ‘Music and Cultural Management’ and ‘Performance Science and Sound Research’. Her master’s thesis entitled ‘Emotional Perception of Music: Immersive Virtual Reality versus Typical Video Streaming of a Guitar Concert’ was funded by the ‘Austrian Society for Music and Medicine’ and presented as a scientific poster at the symposium ‘Body, Mind & Music’ in Vienna in April 2024.
Francesca has taken part in numerous masterclasses given by renowned guitarists, including F. Bernier, Z. Dukic, T. Korhonen, L. Kuropaczewski, L. Micheli, J. Monno, T. Offerman, J. Perroy, P. Saidl, P. Seidl, M. Socias and S. Viola.
She has won several national and international competitions, both as a soloist and until 2015 also with the guitar ensemble ‘EnArmonia’. Matteo Rigotti composed the pieces ‘Winter Nights’ and ‘Ninna Nanna’ for this ensemble and asked the musicians to record his works. The recordings were released on the CD ‘Sfiorando il contemporaneo’ in 2014.
Parallel to her studies, Francesca is professionally active: she worked as a student assistant and project assistant at the Institute for Music Education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and has been employed as a guitar teacher at the municipal ‘Johannes Brahms’ music school in Mürzzuschlag since September 2021.
Francesca is co-organiser together with Petra Poláčková of the ERASMUS+ project ‘La città delle mille corde’ in collaboration with the ‘Segovia Guitar Academy’ in Pordenone. She is also an organising teacher of the ‘United Guitars’ project in Graz.
Francesca Agostinis plays a guitar made by Australian guitar maker Paul Sheridan.
Workshop – The Development and Optimization of the Guitar Posture
In this workshop we will focus on an often overlooked but central topic for guitarists: Guitar posture. The way guitarists hold their instrument has changed over the centuries, influenced by the evolution of the guitar itself and the different playing techniques that have come to the fore. But posture is not just a question of aesthetics or tradition; it has a significant impact on the physical well-being and health of the player.
A central aspect that we focus on is the physical requirements and the strain that an unfavorable posture can cause. Muscle tension, neck and back pain or even chronic complaints are not uncommon, especially when playing for long periods of time.
